Meditation on the beach: 7 benefits

What are the advantages of practicing meditation on the beach? Why is meditating good for psychophysical health? What can online therapy do?

Meditation is an excellent practice to strengthen our psyche and also take care of its health, to free the mind, relax, develop gratitude and awareness.

We can meditate wherever inspires us, both indoors and outdoors; have you ever tried doing it by the seashore? Whether it’s on the shoreline, on a pier, on a boat, or simply sitting near the water listening to the sound of the waves or boats in the distance, breathing in the sea air deeply, letting yourself be lulled by the foam that gently breaks on the shore or by the call of the seagulls.

You can meditate at any time and as you please even on vacation, carving out time for yourself, even better in the early morning when the air is still fresh and the beaches are quieter and less crowded. Or after calming your breaths, repeat motivational phrases in your mind (mantras).

Let’s now look together at the major benefits of meditation and why to love this age-old practice even more.

7 benefits of meditation

Boosts the immune system: meditating on the beach, spending your time in contact with nature, reduces exposure to stress and all the negative effects that follow, such as inflammation, illnesses, anxious symptoms or more generally a weakened immune system; which, on the contrary, with outdoor meditation, is significantly strengthened;

Improves sleep quality: meditating helps us relax, calm down, become more familiar with restorative sleep both in terms of how quickly we fall asleep and its quality. By integrating meditation as a daily habit, the benefits before going to bed will become increasingly evident;

Greater energy: energy levels also benefit greatly from the meditative practice. This is because by meditating, letting thoughts flow, calming the mind, you really manage to recharge your batteries, feel better and more inclined to face new commitments in a more lucid and present way;

More concentration: by meditating, concentration is also trained and improved. In practice, for example, the theme of attention is recurring: attention to the breath, to an object, to a sound, to a mantra, and so on. Centering yourself in meditation consequently develops the quality of concentration; scientifically, in fact, the area of the hippocampus involved in processing memory increases in size;

Keeps anxiety at bay: less stress, less anxiety. Several studies on people who had been practicing meditation for at least 8 weeks report that levels of anxiety and stress, compared to those who did not practice it at all, are visibly reduced. Not only that, specifically through the meditative habit the people tested also reported lower values of panic attacks, paranoia, obsessive-compulsive behaviors, and social anxiety;

Promotes gratitude: meditating helps you open up to yourself and the world, to center yourself on your emotions by metabolizing them, bringing them to awareness. Practicing gratitude increases optimism, resilience, fulfillment at an evolutionary and existential level; distancing toxic and harmful emotions such as resentment, envy, jealousy. Through meditation we can gain access to gratitude and learn to fully understand it, making it an important and valid ally for our psychophysical health;

Helps generate kindness: there are different types of meditation that focus attention on the practice of kindness. One of these is “metta’’: loving-kindness meditation. Through the practice, kind feelings are developed first towards oneself, and then spread to friends, relatives and strangers. Kindness, like love, is something that should start from within, directed at ourselves, and then be spread to others as well and benefit collectively for the building of a better world.

What can online therapy do?

Online therapy can also help in learning autogenic training techniques to relearn how to relax and not succumb to daily stress, as well as to accept and live life with a philosophy more oriented toward finding inner peace, being influenced as little as possible by external external factors, by people and by situations.
