Synchronicity: 8 signs
What are synchronicities? How can they help you understand whether you are on the right or wrong path in your life? What can online therapy do?
Since time immemorial, humanity has always experienced in its own life, in art, and in literature phenomena that go beyond a clear logical explanation: coincidences, tricks of fate, “fortune”; phenomena that, however, enrich life, for better or for worse, with a higher meaning that goes beyond purely material and earthly things.
Today, specifically, we are going to talk about “synchronicity.”
The term “synchronicity” was used for the first time by Jung in 1952, defining it as a “meaningful coincidence”; that is, a series of events that for some reason (not always within our understanding) link different occurrences or cause unusual sequences with unexpected outcomes.
The biologist Kammerer, on the other hand, explains how coincidences can in some way reflect the natural laws of cause and effect. By thoroughly analyzing 100 coincidences, reported in his book “The Law of the Series,” Kammerer formulated his “theory of seriality.” According to the biologist, events are linked to one another by waves of seriality, unknown forces that provoke our perception of a “grouping” of a series of episodes that we would define as coincidences.
Jung himself drew on his work, thus developing a theory based on both synchronic and serial laws.
Influenced by Kammerer’s ideas, Carl Gustav Jung revisited part of his work to further develop his theory on the laws of synchronicity and seriality. This connection between two (or more) events that occur simultaneously—like two clocks that are found set to the same time by an unknown hand—is therefore defined as a “coincidence,” a phenomenon still largely inexplicable with our current resources. According to Jung, synchronicity—hence coincidences—are manifestations of the unconscious that occur during the day (just as the dream pertains to the night).
Very often these synchronicities appear as if the Universe were intent on communicating something meaningful to us; something that it is up to us to contemplate and bring to new awareness. A sign, perhaps, that the path taken is the right one, or that it is not and we should change course—an encounter, an image, a word spoken by a stranger. Everything is connected.
Generally speaking, for broader awareness, we could begin by saying that if we were able to receive certain signals, it is simply because we were there, at the right time, in the right place, alone or with the right people but, above all, we were ready to receive them. Our intuition was therefore listening.
But what are the signs for identifying a “synchronicity”?
Below we list the 8 most common examples of “coincidences”:
- thinking of a particular person and shortly thereafter receiving a phone call or a message from them;
- looking for a solution to your problem/situation and perhaps finding the answer you were seeking in a book, on a billboard on the street, in a song, and feeling that you have received a “revelation,” the answer or advice you were seeking, in an entirely (or almost entirely) chance manner;
- watching a film or listening to a song by pure chance, and feeling that it speaks about you, that it describes in detail what you are experiencing at that moment;
- meeting a new person who will turn out to be important, or who will act as a “ferryman” toward a new version of yourself, as if they had been placed on your path by something inexplicable and higher;
- casually overhearing conversations on the street or talking with a friend and hearing precisely the words or a topic you had been reflecting on;
- receiving the right phrase, the right message, from someone or something, that sheds light on a situation and comforts you with confidence and positivity;
- experiencing a chain of fortunate situations and synchronicities—one thing unlocks another, and so on—attracting abundance (or negativity) into your life or relationships. Often much is determined by our thoughts and our state of mind, which can shape reality (on this subject, read the article on the law of attraction to attract the right person);
- finally, “premonitory dreams,” manifestations of synchronicities, can also reveal themselves to us during sleep, or in other subtler ways that embrace other dimensions of our life.
Synchronicity, therefore, rather than being magic or esotericism, is simply the creative force at work, the fire of creation, at times providence, at the foundation of all life that surrounds us. This mechanism of union between events is nothing other than the primordial form in which we were created: we are made of one another. There is no separation between us and the Universe, but we are a Whole. It suffices to think that every human being is composed mainly of stardust—of elements such as hydrogen, oxygen, carbon, calcium, phosphorus.
Synchronicity is therefore active and unites every living being.
What can online therapy do
Through online therapy it is possible to help patients do work on themselves, to understand more efficiently and more consciously which events, synchronicities, and circumstances are leading to an inner evolution—what signs of the Universe are pushing us to follow the project of the soul.
Synchronicities mainly announce a change in the life of the man or woman who experiences them, so that a person may change, straighten the course, or be directed toward the most authentic version of themselves—the one that has been waiting for them for a long time.
