The quality of our relationships shapes the foundations of our self-esteem, our sense of security, and the degree of trust we place in others.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Although many people have a not-so-positive opinion of <span class=\"s1\"><b>personal boundaries<\/b><\/span>, it\u2019s important to clarify that they are essential for a healthy, lasting relationship. Being able to set \u201cground rules\u201d in our relationships (family, romantic, professional) is the best way to protect our identity and our physical and mental health. Without boundaries, relationships become unsatisfying and disappointing; frustration and resentment grow because we fail to carve out our own space and assert our rights.<\/p>\n<h2><b>Healthy boundaries and assertiveness<\/b><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p3\">People who know how to set good boundaries are easy to recognize. They tend to be balanced and healthy; they adapt to circumstances <span class=\"s1\"><b>without compromising themselves<\/b><\/span>. Their hallmark is <span class=\"s1\"><b>assertiveness<\/b><\/span>: the ability to state one\u2019s will clearly and respectfully\u2014without dominating and without submitting. They can say <i>no<\/i> when needed, without being trapped by guilt.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">When boundaries are genuine, we become more aware of ourselves, our emotions and desires, as well as others\u2019 needs and responsibilities. We feel free to live our own life and grant the same freedom to others, without replacing them. Mistakes are allowed and seen as opportunities for growth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">This cultivates self-esteem and well-being. Relationships born from healthy boundaries thrive because they are authentic and disinterested.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Boundaries should be drawn <span class=\"s1\"><b>wisely and calmly<\/b><\/span>. If they\u2019re expressed with anger or indecision, they won\u2019t be understood or perceived as a real need. It\u2019s essential to recognize and use the right strategies to assert our rights and needs\u2014at home, at work, or in love.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">This is meaningful work that can be effectively pursued through <span class=\"s1\"><b>online therapy<\/b><\/span>. These small situations entangle you and siphon away your quality time.<\/p>\n<h2><b>Ask yourself these questions<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\">In what situations do I struggle most to set boundaries?<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">What behaviors or situations am I tired of tolerating?<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">In which areas of my life (family, love, school, friendships, work, career) do I need to start setting healthy boundaries?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p3\">Set aside time to reflect and <span class=\"s1\"><b>write it down in a personal journal<\/b><\/span>. This helps you pinpoint the areas where it\u2019s time to act to live more consciously, happily, and peacefully. Every clue, thought, and reflection becomes valuable material for reprocessing your experience.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">As with any evolution, we start from the basics: <span class=\"s1\"><b>our roots<\/b><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Were there family dynamics that prevented us from experiencing the value of personal boundaries?
